Tennis elbow
Tennis elbow, or lateral epicondylitis, is a tendon problem on the outside of the elbow. Despite the name, you don't need to play tennis to develop it. It's caused by repeated strain on the forearm muscles, from computer work, painting, gardening or sport. You'll recognise it by pain when gripping, twisting or lifting. With eccentric exercises, dry needling and adjusting the load, we resolve the problem.
Golfer's elbow
Golfer's elbow, or medial epicondylitis, is the mirror image of tennis elbow: the pain sits on the inside of the elbow. It's also caused by overload of the forearm muscles, whether from sport or manual work. Treatment is similar to tennis elbow but targets different muscle groups.
RSI and overuse complaints
RSI stands for Repetitive Strain Injury and covers a range of complaints in the arm, wrist, hand or neck caused by prolonged, repetitive strain. Think of pain, tingling, stiffness or weakness during or after computer work. Treatment focuses on unloading, strengthening, posture advice and workplace adjustments. The earlier you start, the better the result.
Wrist complaints
Wrist complaints can develop after a fall on an outstretched hand, from overload, or from a ganglion, a harmless cyst near the wrist. Symptoms range from pain on movement to weakness and instability. We thoroughly examine the wrist and build a treatment plan that matches the underlying cause.
When to see a physiotherapist?
Elbow and wrist complaints rarely resolve on their own if the cause isn't addressed. Don't wait too long, chronic overuse complaints are harder to treat than acute ones. No referral is needed at Shane Gnade Physiotherapy in Almere.
