Ultrasound

Sometimes a complaint is hard to assess from the outside. With ultrasound we can look directly inside the tissue in real time and see precisely what's happening, leading to a quicker, more accurate diagnosis and a more targeted treatment.

How does ultrasound work?

Ultrasound uses sound waves to create images of muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints. It's completely painless and involves no radiation. We apply a conductive gel to the skin and move the probe over the area, the screen instantly shows what's happening in the tissue.

When is it useful?

Ultrasound is valuable whenever there's uncertainty about a diagnosis. Think of tendinitis, a partial muscle tear, bursitis, a ganglion cyst, or fluid build-up in a joint. For chronic complaints that aren't responding well to treatment, ultrasound can also give more clarity about the cause.

Advantages over MRI or X-ray?

An ultrasound scan is available immediately at our Almere practice, no waiting list, no referral needed, and it's far more affordable than an MRI. It's also dynamic: we can examine structures while you move, giving information you simply can't get from a still MRI image.

How does an appointment work?

An ultrasound examination takes about 15 to 20 minutes. We discuss the findings with you immediately and link them directly to your treatment plan, so you leave the appointment knowing exactly what's going on and how we'll approach it.
